This year will mark the third cooperation between re:publica and MEDIA CONVENTION Berlin (2 – 3 May). YouTube stars meet with internet activists, while film experts debate with journalists. As in last years, there's a joint ticket for both events.

This year's #MCB16, one of Europe's most important media congress, will again offer a diverse event programme. German and international experts from media, science and politics will assemble in Berlin next week to discuss various themes and topics. Current trends and developments in media production, challenges posed to regulation by digitisation and aspects of diversity will be discussed. New methods of media distribution, as well as current questions concerning media and net politics will also be topics at #MCB16. While the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (mbb) curated programme on Stage 5 looks at audiovisual themes, Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg's (MABB) Stage 7 focuses on developments in media politics and regulation. Among many others, Stanford pioneer Barbara van Schewick will talk about net neutrality and Morgan Wandell, head of drama development at Amazon Studios, will discuss content development versus quota systems.

re:publica will curate the programme on Stage 6, located in the second floor at STATION Berlin. Speakers will deal with the effects of media usage and production on society as a whole. Berhnard Pörksen will discuss the "Power of Storytelling", its foundations in relations to new media, as well as its conflicting influences on the viral platforms of the digital age.

On the topic of freedom of the press, Germany itself is not looking all that great. Recently, it was demoted in press freedom rankings. Hong Kong is another country, where media and press freedoms have suffered over the past years. Vivienne Chow, journalist and critic, will explain how the current situation developed and what changed following the handover of Hong Kong back to China.

How can organisations utilise social media? Hardly a new questions, but Franzisika Broich explore some new avenues, including how the EU Parliament effectively began using the Snapchat app. Equally interesting: the "Innovation in Elections: Use of Digital Technology in Political Campaigns" fireside chat with US Ambassador John B. Emerson and Max Hoppenstedt from VICE/Motherboard. Together they will look at current trends in election campaigns. Still wondering what Snapchat actually is? Check out Joshua Arntzen's session "Snapchat für Erwachsense". Expect a new version of his entertaining session from re:publica 2015.

Of course, this is just a sample of what's on offer. Further sessions include topics on e-sports, podcasting and youth protection on the net. Check out the full programme schedule of this year's #MCB16 here
