Change The Story, Change The World

Culture & Arts
re:publica 2016

Short thesis:

Stories matter. From video games to Hollywood to fanfiction, the stories we tell about race, gender and sexuality are starting to shift – and the backlash is on. How can we use narrative to change politics for the better?

Description:

From Mad Max and Star Wars to Black Hermione and Female Ghostbusters, from the Hugo awards to Gamergate, something huge is shifting in culture. Why does it matter so much that people who aren't white straight cis men get to be the hero? How can we harness the power of narrative and tell new stories about what sort of society we want to live in?

A talk about narrative, being a geek and how nerds can save the world – with some slides and a lot of time for question and answers.
