3D-Printing for Beginners

Global Innovation Gathering (GIG)
re:publica 2016

Kurzthese:

Wanna make your own stuff? Together, we learn how to do just that with 3D printing. We will help you with designing your very own (maybe your first?) 3D model and, of course, we will then print your creation out right there and then for you to take home with!

Beschreibung:

3D printing gets cheaper and more ubiquitous all the time. The technology has great potential and we’d like to show that 3D modeling and printing a first project of your very own can be achieved quite quickly and easily for anyone. We'll start out with an intro to different 3D printing approaches and then move towards hands-on time. Using a few simple (but surprisingly powerful) and free software tools, we will help you shape a virtual 3D object which we will then print out together right there and then. You are welcome to take your creation home and maybe even expand upon it in a Fab Lab, Maker- or Hackerspace near your home!

Computers will be provided and there are no age requirements - however, depending on computer skills, younger children should be accompanied by parents or older siblings/friends.

Please note that 3D printing is not lightning fast (at least for now) so printing all participants' creations will take some time. You are, of course, welcome to stay and watch, experiment with 3D modeling or just ask all the questions you like. Alternatively, you can attend other re:publica events during printing time and come back later. In any case, if you would like to take your creation home with you, please plan your day so that you will be able to check back with us about 2hrs after the workshop ends.

Note: 15 participants maximum, please sign up at the GIG makerspace.  Sign up sheet will be available from the start of Day 1. Please come 10 mins before workshop.
