Kurzthese:

A talk that explores the real power of art at different times of conflict showcasing examples of grassroots artistic movements from across the globe from Latin America to Sub-Saharan Africa.

Beschreibung:

Ruth Daniel, the Co-Director of In Place of War (UK) has been working across the world in places of conflict – understanding why art, creativity and culture are so important for grassroots communities to find a voice, be empowered and challenge the status quo.

This talk will take you through the world showing the importance to art from satire that challenges governments in Zimbabwe to hip-hop that made an alternative to drug cartels in Colombia to music as a means to escape the conflict in the ghettos of caracas. For Ruth, art is as important as food, shelter and water… As humans we need to create, like we need to breathe.
