Marlen is a Gates Scholar at Cambridge University Judge Business School, where she studies entrepreneurship and innovation in adverse environments. Her current work analyzes business activity and informal markets in refugee camps, and identifies opportunities to amplify refugee-led innovation. She has also investigated the potential of business incubators to facilitate entrepreneurial activity in constrained contexts, based on study of the nascent technology entrepreneurship ecosystem in Nairobi, Kenya. Before academia, Marlen worked for the UN Refugee Agency and as a research consultant for the GIZ’s entrepreneurship programs in Burkina Faso.
